Why is it important?
Self-directed learning is a critical competence that empowers adults to adapt accordingly to the fluid and complex social contextual changes in today's world. However, skill is needed for self-directed learning. More often than not adults do not have skill for self-directed learning. Formal education offers a vital opportunity to foster the skills necessary for self-directed learning.
Perspectives
This paper provides evidence based guidance of how an adult educator can find an effective balance of control with their learners. How can educators encourage learners to take control of their learning process?
