What is it about?

Fundamental period of concrete gravity dams is required to obtain the target period range in order to determine the site specific design spectrum and to generate synthetic ground motions.

Why is it important?

This study helps the design engineer predict the fundamental vibration period range before the final design calculations. The proposed prediction equation gives the design engineers the opportunity to estimate the period without forming the numerical model.

Perspectives

The proposed prediction equation was formed by utilizing a large database and by performing a non-linear regression. The prediction equation had a large coefficient of determination (around 0.95), which increases the confidence on it.
