What is it about?
We discussed with primary and secondary school students from low socio-economic areas, interviewed teachers and principals and surveyed parents in regional north-eastern NSW, Australia their views about higher education, "going onto uni" and analysed these to find influences, enablers and constraints. Key influences were parental and family education, social, behavioural and pedagogical or skill levels. Barriers and enablers for students in getting to higher education emerged. We suggest strategies for increasing participation in higher education for lower socioeconomic students in regional areas.
