What is it about?
Interprofessional team-based health care has been cited as leading to improved quality of care. This paper describes the development of a national training program within the Department of Veterans Affairs to transform education and clinical care within VA primary care settings to interprofessional team-based learning and practice to improve health professions education and primary care outcomes for Veterans.

Lessons learned from our experiences may guide other large-scale transformational efforts to improve the educational preparation of our national healthcare workforce.
Perspectives
I hope this article stimulates further thinking to identify the critical components of an interprofessional clinical learning environment to set the stage for effective interprofessional education of health professions trainees. Our perspective comes from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and it will be interesting to see how our experiences compare with other health care environments.
