What is it about?

Breastfeeding mother need to be psychologically healthy in order to practise exclusive breastfeeding as recommended. We used multivariate analysis to establish how maternal age, breastfeeding self-efficacy and health locus of control directly and interactively influence dimensions of psychological wellbeing of mothers in Nigeria.

Why is it important?

Our findings reveal the need for mothers to be confident in breastfeeding and have control over their health-related behaviour to enjoy sufficient dimensions of wellbeing.

Perspectives

I hope this article will throw more lights to the importance of psychological factors in health-related intervention programs for breastfeeding mothers; especially in Nigeria where primary health care is inadequate.
