What is it about?

The arrow sign is commonly used in our daily life. The relevant previous studies have found that the masked, subliminal arrows (e.g., single arrows < and >, or double arrows < < and > >) can be processed unconsciously. However, the studies using double arrows considered only the pointing relation between the prime and the target. They did not investigate whether the pointing relation between the two subliminally perceived arrows (same/different direction) in the prime could be processed. Using a briefly masked prime display paradigm, this study investigated whether the pointing relation (same or different) between two unconsciously perceived arrows in the prime could be processed.

Why is it important?

This study indicates that the pointing relation between the two subliminally perceived arrows can be processed and suggests that people can integrate unconsciously perceived information.

Perspectives

I hope this article will let people think more about the complex of the unconscious proceessing and its effect on behaviour.
