The study examines the impact of technology purchases from abroad on improving Indian manufacturing exports. The study examines the issue using econometric methodology at different segments of manufacturing such as basic goods, intermediate goods, capital goods and consumer goods.

Why is it important?

The study provides empirical evidence for the existence of trade-related technology transfer in an emerging economy. Since trade is a vehicle of transferring production technology across the globe, accessing them creates a favourable opportunity for domestic manufacturing to improve their cost efficiency and exports.
