What is it about?

A correct seat and position are the basis for good performance in horseback riding. In this study, we measured deviations from the correct seat and tested a seat improvement program with dismounted exercises and investigated weather horse behaviour was affected by the rider's seat.

Why is it important?

The rider's seat and position is paramount for the communication between rider and horse, both in terms of performance and for the welfare of both parts.

Perspectives

The relation between rider and horse is interactive and complex. I believe that there is a need for innovative methods to improve riders' seat. If succesful methods to assess and improve riders' seat could be identified, the next step would be to further implement and test this system in practice.
