What is it about?
This study investigates the motivations behind the adoption of quality certifications in Spain's hospitality sector, focusing on two primary standards: the international ISO 9001 and the Spain-specific "Q" certificate. The research, based on data from 187 certified hotels in the Balearic Islands, reveals distinct reasons for choosing each certification. ISO 9001 is predominantly selected for internal organizational benefits, such as enhancing employee motivation, improving company image, and reducing complaints. In contrast, the "Q" certificate is often pursued for external advantages related to promotion and sales.
