What is it about?

Summer bridge programs help empower students who may need a little help to achieve success in college. This study focused on students who had been through Project LeeWay, a summer bridge program developed especially for students who had experienced difficulty and wanted to pursue careers in technical fields. The most important finding was that students felt that their growth in Project LeeWay was due to their instructors.

Why is it important?

This study is important because it highlights the importance of the college instructor to the student experience. So often we focus on "how to teach" when we discuss college instruction, and we often forget that the teacher-student relationship is just as, if not more, important to student success.

Perspectives

This study means a lot to me because it is on a program I love, Project LeeWay located at Lee College in my hometown of Baytown, TX. LeeWay provided me with my very first teaching experience, launching me down a career that I love.
