What is it about?

This paper builds upon the work of Professor Roger Dale, published in this journal in 2007, on the 'modernisation of the university' in Europe. Higher Education Policy in Europe is changing in terms of how academic research is funded. This paper considers the 'impact' agenda, which seeks to improve the non-academic impact of academic research.
