What is it about?
High pressures and/or temperatures will have a significant effect on the structure and properties of liquid and glassy materials. Neutron diffraction offers a means of investigating these structural changes from a viewpoint that is different to x-ray diffraction and other methods.

Why is it important?
Our work highlights some of the recent advances that have been made by using the neutron diffraction technique to investigate the structure of liquids and glasses under extreme conditions of high pressures or high temperatures.
Perspectives
It’s important to gain information from different experimental techniques in order to build realistic models that can predict changes to the structure of disordered materials under extreme conditions. This is an essential first step in explaining the accompanying changes to the material properties.
