What is it about?
Baccharis punculata is a native shrub of Argentina and Brazil and the composition and differences in composition of its essential oil are reported for the first time. The spectroscopic determination of the structure of the major sesquiterpenes is reported

Why is it important?
The identification of essential oils compounds is neccesary to further studies in the activities of the plants, their chemotaxonomy, the enzymatic capabilities , etc. The determination of the structures of sesquiterpenes will also increase the compound data in the libraries.
Perspectives
The studies on seasonal variation of the essential oil composition may disclose aspects of the function the compounds play in the plant or in the ecosystem.
