Why is it important?

This article is important because it explains the early stages of the Japanese popular culture phenomenon and identifies the trajectory from these very early days. It also theorises the phenomenon and provides an alternative perspective on the reasons for such popularity with the concept of 'Oriental Cool'.

Perspectives

This paper was extremely enjoyable to investigate and to write. The television program in question was one of my earliest encounters with anything Japanese.
