Knowledge democracy can be applied to the field of educational research through strengthening the position of practitioner research. We examine this issue in relation to education research in the USA.

The gap between research and practice in education limits discussion of what works and hinders the development of a professional workforce in education.
Perspectives
Although knowledge democracy, like democracy itself, is a challenging practice, acceptance of the experience and wisdom of educational practitioners and support for strengthening their capacity to conduct context-specific research as a part of their regular practice is an important step forward.
