What is it about?

New data reveals that solid walls are not as cold as is assumed by heating designers, builders and energy assessors. There is a lot of variation, and some solid walls are warmer than some uninsulated cavity walls.

Why is it important?

The economic case for solid-wall insulation is still strong: but an argument that is based only on energy savings (such as the Green Deal) no longer looks as good as it used to, now we know that uninsulated solid walls are not as cold as we thought.
