What is it about?

This article explores the ways in which sports biographies help us deal with social challenges such as war and racism. It examines two of the most important and popular sports biopics, Pride of the Yankees (1942) and Biran's Song (1971).

Why is it important?

This work gives us new ways in which to see the role of the sports hero as Christ figure in our social discourse.

Perspectives

This work is a part of my ongoing study of sport as public discourse, an activity that is defined by its role in the public sphere. In that role, sport shapes our values and creates meaning in our lives.
