What is it about?
The article argues that should the Philippines consider downgrading its alliance with the U.S. to a security partnership then it must take into account the following: the consequence of losing the deterrence effect of a defense treaty with the world’s most powerful nation; the impact on Philippine defense spending; on the ongoing Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP’s) modernization program; and whether or not the Filipino nation will support this move.
