The many sources from which members of the public can gain some science knowledge include entertainment and leisure activities. Greater sharing of ideas, data and methodologies between researchers concerned with out of school learning of science, social history, art, and so on, would be beneficial..

Perspectives

The special issue of the journal provided an opportunity to expand the range of interests that were seen as relevant to research in 'informal sources' of learning science, which had been a preoccupation and reserch focus of mine since 1980. This paper was intended to raise these questions, some of which were addressed by invited authors from other disciplines.
