What is it about?
This article explores how American Indian elders think about elder abuse. Older American Indians think about elder abuse differently than other groups. In this study, participant ideas about elder abuse were related to ideas about how elders generally deserve to be treated. Compared to mainstream American culture, participants had some relatively high expectations for how elders should be treated by relatives. This related in large part to the importance of respect for elders in many Native cultures.
