What is it about?
Growing of Burkholderia pseudomallei as biofilm exhibited resistance to conventional antibiotics. We have shown that D-LL-31 can enhance the bactericidal activity of ceftazidime to kill Burkholderia pseudomallei under-biofilm stimulating condition.

Why is it important?
We found that D-LL-31 has a strong killing effect on B. pseudomallei under biofilm-inducing conditions and enhanced synergistically the effect of CAZ. It also disrupted the biofilm matrix of B. pseudomallei while being nontoxic to human red blood cells.
Perspectives
D-LL-31 should be further developed as a novel antibiofilm agent in single therapy or used as an adjunctive agent to enhance the efficacy of current antibiotics for the treatment of melioidosis.
