What is it about?

This paper examines the intricacies of ethnic belonging in Nigerian. It suggests an alternative imagining of the ethnic borders and identity by foregrounding that ethnic identity goes beyond biological affiliation. Understanding belonging beyond colonially-created and fixed difference transforms borders into frontier spaces of positive encounter, interaction and exchange.

Why is it important?

This study is important in this era of continued separation and erection of walls. Rethinking ethnic belonging from the perspective of border inclusivity is a prerequisite for national progress.

Perspectives

This article gives me an opportunity to advocate for an alternative possibility in the life of Nigeria as a nation. A possibility that goes beyond secession and border fixity to a common nationality and humanity respectively.
