What is it about?

This article explores perceptions of parents from 4 ethnic communities on what they consider are social difficulties for children with autism. All the parents in this study have children with autism themselves.

Why is it important?

There is an assumption that all individuals with autism should learn similar kind of social skills. This research has found that different communities associate varying levels of significance to specific social behaviour. Therefore, this impacts on whether they consider someone with differences in this area as disabled, but also which areas they prioritise for intervntion.
