What is it about?
The paper is about the equilibrium of liquid-liquid extraction of copper(II) ions from sodium sulfate solutions by using decanoic acid as complexing agent. The proposed theoretical models for the stoichiometry of complexation equilibria and molecular structures of the resulting complexes are validated by experimental investigations as pH-metrics, UV-vis an IR spectral analysis.

Why is it important?
Solvent extraction of copper(II) from sulfate medium using large range of capric acid concentrations was performed to determine the stoichiometry of the extracted species and their extraction constants. UV-Visible and FT-IR spectroscopy have been also used to determine the structure and types of bonding of the organometallic extracted copper(II) complexes, respectively.
