What is it about?

This project is to provide evidence about the comparative predictive power of different English language proficiency measures represented by Chinese and Western English language programs, one-off English language proficiency test, and discipline based pathway programs, for the academic performance of Chinese international students enrolled in transnational business degrees offered by Western English-speaking universities in China.

Why is it important?

No prior studies have examined the comparative predictive power of Chinese and Western English proficiency measures in transnational education using the cross-over repeated measures design.

Perspectives

Assessing an English as Foreign Language speakers' (e.g. Chinese students) English language proficiency should consider the intended course of study, not blindly impose a specified standardised English language proficiency test score.
