Why is it important?

in bihar, INDIA leishmaniasis is a life threatening disease. there are only four drugs to treat the disease. those drugs are going into resistance. there is an urgent need to find out potential inhibitor against a new potential target (which is very much essential for the parasite survival) . thus this study will help to find out an alternate approach for the treatment of leishmaniasis either as monotherapy or as combination therapy in drug resistant cases of leishmaniasis.

Perspectives

this study will open a new door to understand the parasite nature and behaviour and the importance of the nad synstase protein for the survival of the parasite inside human host. secondly it will motivate other synthetic chemist and drug discovery researcher, pharmaceutical chemist or biologist to find out a formulation of the screened inhibitors and synthetically derive some more potent analogues of the inhibitors so as to reach to the suffering patients and help in eradication of the life threatening disease and give a new ray of hope to the humanity. not only leishmaniasis, the target nad synthase can be a potential target for other pathogenic disease also and the same inhibitors can be used against many pathogenic diseases also.
