What is it about?

The paper presents an optimized wetting and drying procedure for a preparation of monolithic catalysts. The homogeneous distribution of the active phase within the monolithic catalysts was achieved by drying of the impregnated monoliths under a forced flow in a specially designed dryer. The dryer operated at ambient conditions with high recycle flow of drying gas. The direction of recycle flow was periodically alternated by a pneumatically driven valve assembly which prevent accumulation of material on outside surfaces of monolithic support due to action of capillary forces.

Why is it important?

The proposed impregnation procedure minimize amount of catalyst precursor solution needed for impregnation of monolithic support and assures homogeneous distribution of active phase within the monolithic catalyst.

Perspectives

The proposed method is potentially very attractive for preparing larger samples of new monolithic catalysts for preliminary tests of new catalytic mixtures on pilot scale.
