What is it about?

Many self-reported mental health symptoms improved, and some changes in attachment patterns were detected. These women reported feeling more secure in their relationships with other people and in their relationship with God.

Why is it important?

When people present with a substance abuse disorder, they often have mental health symptoms or even have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder. Treating both co-occurring problems is important for recovery. And only a handful of studies have detected any change in attachment patterns. Relationships are a key part of human life and because addictions are a national crisis right now, finding other ways to assess and/or help people overcome them is important.

Perspectives

It is interesting to learn more about Christian rehabilitation programs, and how they are similar or differ from regular treatment programs. This one seemed to be very effective in helping women to overcome their substance abuse and accompanying mental health symptoms.
