What is it about?

Selenium is an important micronutrient and component of proteins aimed at reducing oxidative stress such as glutathione peroxidase (GPx). We have shown a protective role for selenium and GPx on both the micro- and macrovasculature in a young, healthy bi-ethnic population.

Why is it important?

Our findings suggest the importance in maintaining optimal selenium levels for adequate functioning of the antioxidant system and vascular protection against oxidative stress.
