What is it about?

This paper looks at the case for investing in transit oriented development and rail network interchange opportunities where these make most sense. In times of fiscal constraint, not all station precincts can receive equal investment and nor should they based on unique sets of opportunities and constraints. Station precincts that form part of the knowledge economy make the most sense as foci for activity intensification.

This work steps beyond the 'blueprint' approach to trying to generate transit oriented development around all rail stations. Instead, investment should be prioritised and can take various forms, in accordance with Luca Bertolini's concepts of node and place.
