What is it about?

There has been a great deal of debate regarding whether the high vowel /i/ opens when it is followed by a deleted /-s/ in Eastern Andalusian Spanish. This paper analyses this acoustically and it also considers other contexts where /i/ can open word-finally in this variety of Spanish.

Why is it important?

This is the latest analysis of word-final /i/ in Eastern Andalusian Spanish and it presents acoustic analyses of context which had not been analysed before.

Perspectives

As a native speaker of Eastern Andalusian Spanish, this paper explains to me the very subtle differences I can hear between the /i/ in "mi", "mis", "ir", and "nariz".
