What is it about?

A short but comprehensive review of Cox (2012), the first textbook completely devoted to the phonology of Australian English. "As textbooks go there is very little this reviewer can do at the outset other than to thoroughly recommend it to anybody who is planning to teach a pronunciation course to Australians, or to anybody planning to teach a course in Australian English pronunciation. It is without a doubt peerless."

Why is it important?

Gives a good overview of the book as a scholarly text, a textbook, and as a physical object.

Perspectives

I was personally very glad to see such an excellent resource for phonetics teaching in Australia. A book long overdue. My own hope is that a future edition will spend some more time dealing with different varieties of Australian English.
