What is it about?

Frontal areas (zone of important temperature differences) are detected in Candian coastal waters using a 25-climatology of sea-surface temperature (SST). Since ocean fronts are often linked to important biological habitats, comparison is made with regions of high Chlorophyll-a concentration (phytoplankton) and/or known habitat for marine mammals and birds.

Why is it important?

As its title suggests, this study is an atlas that may be used to know more about certain coastal regions that have been mapped. As an example, this study may be used in preparation to field work to target a certain region for sampling, or to interpret data already acquired in the past.
