What is it about?

The EU Global Strategy 2016, as well as EU migration documents, adopt different narratives to describe migration to Europe and the legitimate response to it. Taken together they attest to the Union’s comprehensive approach to the issue but also to critical and possibly competing normative dilemmas.

Why is it important?

The way in which the EU talks of migration is telling of its understanding of the challenge and of the legitimate instruments to cope with it. Reading EU narratives tells us a lot also on the normative dilemmas the EU confronts with. In other words, it puts in relation an analytical interest in in EU discourse on migration with normative concerns the EU faces.

Perspectives
