Cigarette smoking has been shown to be more harmful in women than in men. It is against Indian culture for women to smoke. Yet, why is the number of women taking up smoking, especially in Indian cities on the rise? This article explores a few reasons why.

Our findings show what are the drivers of smoking behavior among women in urban India. These insights provide a direction for tailoring interventions to prevent smoking among women and to help them quit.
