What is it about?
The “Validation of the Fitbit One, Garmin Vivofit and Jawbone UP activity tracker in the estimation of energy expenditure during treadmill walking and running” evaluates three different activity trackers to answer the question: Which tracker offers the best estimation of the calories expended across different walking and running speeds. The activity trackers chosen are typical of those purchased by consumers and used to help increase activity with the aim of losing weight. They have been compared to indirect calorimetry, a “gold standard” measure of energy expenditure. The walking and running speeds are typically those of people walking or going for a run as part of a structured exercise programme.
