The present work describes the development of a multiplex qPCR in real time using a low cost DNA dye (SYBr Green) to identify and quantify S. Gallinarum and S.Pullorum

Why is it important?
Both biovars are closely related genetically, which makes difficult the differential diagnosis by microbiological isolation. Besides that, infections or outbreaks causes by biovars are of compulsory notification to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
Perspectives
The comparison of two diagnostic techniques for Salmonella spp. should not delimit the use of one or the other, but rather favor reliability and applicability of obtaining the diagnostic result, with the adequacy of the needs observed in laboratories and animal production.
