What is it about?
I review an interesting edited volume that discusses NATO's reaction to Russia's annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of the Ukraine Crisis and how the "New Cold War" changed NATO as well.

Why is it important?
Several chapters in the book under review suggest that the West did not succeed in offering Russia a place in Europe after the end of the Cold War. Such Western self-criticism is rather rare since 2014.
Perspectives
How should NATO deal with Russia to get out of today's confrontational approach? NATO's "Harmel strategy" (1967) of combining deterrence/defense with détente/dialogue might serve as an interesting historical example.
