Why is it important?

Terrorism risk is a continuing outcome of instability and disatisfaction with Chinese rule in Xinjiang. Given the limited objective reporting of the issue, it is important to assess what is the real risk for China and to what extent the counter terrorism measures of the state are justified.

Perspectives

Xinjiang is an extraordinary area with limited access from the outside world, and hence deserving of more study and understanding. The history of the region has long been tied to China and there are conflicting narratives regarding this history that require more objective study.
