What is it about?

This article is about New Zealand soldiers who came to London as tourists during periods of leave in the First World War. Using their letters and diaries, as well as photographs, newspapers and guidebooks, this article examines what they wrote about their time in London. This includes the experience of Maori soldiers.

Why is it important?

The article is part of the growing interest in the colonial experience of the First World War. It also helps understand London as an imperial metropolis and its relation to the colonies.
