What is it about?
In this study we asked if fathers of preterm infants experience higher levels of stress compared to fathers of term infants. We also investigated the impact of a mother–infant transaction program on paternal stress at child age 6 and 12 months, employing the Parenting Stress Index as an outcome measure.

Why is it important?
Fathers of preterm infants reported significantly higher stress levels than fathers of term infants at both 6 and 12 months. No significant differences in stress levels were observed between the preterm intervention and preterm control groups.
Perspectives
It's notable that intervention did not effectively reduce paternal stress, suggesting that differential intervention strategies should be used for fathers and mothers.
