What is it about?

N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) has been used to embolise brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) for over 30 years. It is a mixed with lipiodol in varying proportions. We report a case of AVM, which was successfully embolized using a 20% NBCA and lipiodol mixture. The lipiodol in the NBCA migrated into the ventricles after the thin part of the wall ruptured 5 days after the embolization.

Why is it important?

We report a temporal AVM with intranidal aneurysm that was successfully embolized using a 20% mixture of NBCA and lipiodol, with confirmed migration of lipiodol into the lateral ventricles on CT 5 days after embolization. It is rare complication after embolization of AVM.

Perspectives

We presented a rare complication of embolization of AVM using a mixture of NBCA and lipiodol. This rare complication can occur, if you embolise AVM with the standard technique.
