What is it about?

Transport planning and urban planning are carried out by different public institutional agencies, with differing priorities, targets and goals. Getting policies which promote sustainable transport used and implemented by urban planners has therefore proven tricky as the need for job creation was a higher priority.

Why is it important?

This paper draws on the first hand tesimony of planners over a period of time, which is quite unique. The need for better co-ordination of transport and land use policies is widely cited by central government as key for creating economic growth in Northern England.

Perspectives

This is a nice paper which draws together a number of pieces of research I conducted during my time as a student and PhD candidate.
