What is it about?
This article details the translation process and validation of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R) for use with Vietnamese speakers. This was performed across a number of rural and urban maternity facilities within Vietnam. The translation was undertaken using the WHO translation process by English and Vietnamese health care professionals.

Why is it important?
Respectful maternity care should be available to all within the maternity system but it is essential to be able to assess which services should be provide to optimise care for women and neonates. Using the Birth Satisfaction Scale can highlight area in need of improvement to enable respectful maternity care.
Perspectives
This article was a joint publication with professionals from both the UK and Vietnam and its production was protracted due to the advent of the global pandemic which significantly affected both countries. Respectful maternity care should be the cornerstone of the birthing experience and available to all women regardless of place of birth. Translation of the BSS into other languages supports respectful midwifery care and gives a voice to those who may be marginalised.
