What is it about?

Today, there are different types of insoles in the sports field: personalised insoles and prefabricated insoles. The effects of these insoles on the pressure on the foot during running remains inconclusive. The use of personalised insoles reduced the pressure under the heel, midfoot, toes and hallux compared to the prefabricated insole and the no-insole conditions and may prevent running injuries associated with pressure overloading during running, specially during long-distance events.

Why is it important?

Many studies have compared personalised insoles to no insole running (same with prefabricated insoles and no insole running). This study compares for the first time all three conditions before and after a fatiguing run. The fatigue state did not influence plantar pressure. We observed greater reduction of pressure using personalised insoles in areas of relevance (heel, hallux). The use of custom-made may prevent running injuries associated with elevated pressure.
