What is it about?

This paper shows how the common issues and disputes among neighboring countries resulting due to hydropower development can be addressed and minimized by following a cooperative approach. This paper proposes a cooperative game theory based approach and shows how much damages can be reduced or benefits gained by cooperation, by considering multiple coalition scenarios.

Why is it important?

It can provide a platform to reduce if not get rid of most of the transboundary issues among riparian countries.

Perspectives

Historically, hydropower development has resulted in multiple conflicts among riparian countries. This research is especially important for the developing countries, as most of their hydrpower potential is untapped and they are progressively constructing multiple hydropower plants, which are often causing issues for the downstream riparian countries.
