What is it about?
The paper is about the equilibrium of liquid-liquid extraction of cobalt(II) ions from sodium sulfate solutions by using decanoic acid as complexing agent. The proposed theoretical models for the stoichiometry of complexation equilibria and molecular structures of the resulting complexes are validated by experimental investigations as pH-metrics, UV-vis an IR spectral analysis.

Why is it important?
Solvent extraction of cobalt(II) from sulfate medium using large range of capric acid concentrations was carried out to determine the stoichiometry of the extracted species and their extraction constants. FTIR and UV–visible spectroscopy have been also performed to identify the types of bonding and geometry of the organometallic extracted complexes, respectively.
