What is it about?

A two-year field experiment was conducted during the growing seasons 2016 and 2017 to investigate the response of drip fertigated watermelon to different rates of nitrogen (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 g/m3 N) applied in the form of ammonium sulfate.

Why is it important?

The objectives of this research work were to increase the yield of grafted watermelon and enhance the water use efficiency of the crop, through the application of N nutrient using drip fertigation via proportional hydraulic injectors. This technique of fertilizers addition is more efficient, in terms of nutrient and water use efficiency, than the other conventional methods of nutrients applications like soil direct treatment.

Perspectives

I hope that this article has new additions regarding plant nutrient and irrigation water management issues. The new nutrient application technology, using proportional hydraulic injectors, is considered an innovation in the plant nutrition science.
