What is it about?
Social gerontology research has aspects which show both unique disciplinary parameters as well as inderdisciplinary elements. Although there are subject-specific library databases such as Abstracts in Social Gerontology that focus on this discipline, the databases with most complete coverage of social gerontolgy were generalized or multidisciplinary such as PubMed, Web of Science, and so forth.

Why is it important?
This article showed that much of social gerontology resarch relies on medical and psychological research. Subject databases such as Abstracts in Social Gerontology are lacking in the hard science coverage that researchers rely upon to publish in this field.
Perspectives
The results of this were surprising, I was not expecting to see such a reliance on the medical literature. Also, the citation analysis methodolgy provided useful understanding of common subjects of study and led me down further lines of scholarly inquiry related to research impact.
