What is it about?

The article provides a sociological interpretation of citizen´s income discussion in Estonia. The articles is based on interviews with people from different fields such as politics and finance. Arguments for and against citizen´s income are analysed. The discussion is approached in the context of Estonia´s (neoliberal) economic and political status quo; and, finally, citizen´s income´s prospects in Estonia are assessed.

Why is it important?

The article is important because it is a pilot study of citizen´s income debates in Estonia. It paves way for further research and maps the beginnings of how the idea is understood in post-socialist Estonia. Citizen´s income is an important socio-economic alternatiive in Estonia.

Perspectives

I believe that the article has several strenghts: it is broad, informative and easily accessible. It does a good job at outlining different strands of thought in terms of how citizen´s income is understood in Estonia: the pro status quo strand and the progressive pro citizen´s income strand.
